It’s been a long hot summer. It’s just flat out sizzling around here. We’ve had a bit of monsoon but some of it has missed us. Regardless of this heat I’ve been starting to get pieces for the studio tour Hidden in the Hills in late November early December. I’ll post more about it the closer it comes.
While dealing with this hot summer I’ve also been making all sorts of new pieces. These are a few of the earrings that I’ve worked on for Hidden in the Hills.
While I love working on larger necklaces I often throw some smaller pieces in.
Bisbee bracelet and ring. Oooh la la on Bisbee turquoise. I have that some of that turquoise tucked away in a safe place….lol.
Just acquired Nevada Seven Dwarfs mine gemstones. Hard to find, pricey to buy but oh so worth it!!!!! You can read about it HERE.
Hopefully this hot summer will morph into beautiful weather in the next few weeks!!! See you soon!!!

I haven’t posted in quite a long while. I have been really busy in my studio. Busy is good!!! These are some of my latest pieces that I’ve worked on. I’ve also been crafting many rings but I thought I’d just post necklaces today.
Love bringing the turquoise to life in a necklace.
I had three Larimar stones that I was going to use separately but decided they would look great together. Glad I went with my instinct on this one.
My latest pieces have been lots of work but fun to work on. I have lots of new turquoise and stones to work into my designs. Better get at it!!!

I work with lots of genuine turquoise and I love each one of them. They’re all beautiful with their own unique characteristics. There are those stones that come around, however, that take your breathe away. This beauty is one of the stones. It’s a Royston turquoise from Nevada. This turquoise is 59 carats. When I decided to work with it I took it and kept in my eyesight for two weeks until I knew what I wanted to do. No fluff needed around this one. It stands alone and speaks for itself. It found a home quickly and I’m thrilled it will be going to someone who appreciates these stones as much as I do. 🙂
When I find genuine turquoise from any mine that has some orange in the matrix I usually nab it. I just adore the orange against the blue/green of the stone. It’s a perfect compliment.
Oooh….. a little Damele custom order for a client. It’s so pretty. I just bought of huge amount of Damele in raw form. It will be cut and polished soon by a lapidary artist. The mine has been closed so we wanted some of it before it gets really hard to find.
If your looking for turquoise go for genuine turquoise. Ask lots of questions. There’s no comparison to the real deal.

It’s so much fun heading into the new year with all the endless possibilities that are ahead. I have so many ideas in my head that I have to jot everything down and keep myself focused or it could all become a mishmash of stuff….lol. I’m planning on working with many new stones and I hope to keep pushing some new designs.
The ring above is a #8 mine turquoise. It’s a large stone but really quite comfortable in a ring. I absolutely think the look is stunning.
There are so many endless possibilities with this ring design. The flowers are fun and interesting. I can’t wait to make more of these.
I made this ring last week. I have small….lol… amounts of gold in my studio so every so often I like to add it to my pieces.
For the next few months I will also have some pieces in the Sonoran Arts League Gallery. It’s in Scottsdale, AZ. If you’re in the Scottsdale area check it out. There are some fantastic artists displaying their work.
Check back to see what I’ll be playing with in the next few months. Tons of endless possibilities for me….. yay!!

Pink druzy *badass* necklace

*be Strong when you are weak. be BRAVE when you are scared. be HUMBLE when you are victorious. be BADASS everyday.* ~Pink
In honor of breast cancer awareness month I made a pink druzy necklace. This necklace has the word *badass* on the back. This is for all the badass people who have fought cancer and won and those who continue to fight. The quote above seems like the appropriate quote for this month.

Speaking about *badass*…lol. I used this Graceful – African green opal for this setting. It is a badass stone. So pretty. It’s happily gone to a new home. Sad to see it gone.
Boulder and Pilot mountain turquoise necklace.

It has been a week of necklaces. I used a large Boulder turquoise and a small Pilot mountain for this piece. I really love the way it looks on. The stones seem to compliment each other nicely. It feels feminine even though it has some size to it.
Thanks for stopping by and remember to be BADASS everyday!!!

Most of the time I wing my designs but sometimes I work in my jewelry sketchbook to come up with new ideas or to see if something will look good on paper before I start creating it. The upside is that I can always refer back to it in the future if I’m creating a similar piece and it’s actually fun to pull out my watercolors and play around.
The above sketches show what I had in mind for the earrings and the Royston turquoise necklace.

As you can see my jewelry sketchbook drawing came close to the actual finished piece. Ok….. kind of close….ha, ha!!! It’s such a great stone. I’m glad I thought this one out a little before diving in.

Sketching ideas can help your design process greatly. I know I should do more of it so I’m trying to up my jewelry sketchbook game a little. I must say that it’s fun to see it go from paper to fruition. 🙂

Ahhhh…… the beauty of turquoise. The more I work with turquoise the more I love it. I’ve always adored it even when I didn’t live in the Southwest. I’m a lover of color and turquoise doesn’t disappoint in that area. Plus….. the stones are so different according to where they’re mined from.
The above ring was made with a Royston turquoise I just acquired. I don’t even know if this photo can do her justice. Probably some of the best color I’ve seen.
I met with a turquoise *connoisseur* last weekend that’s more than familiar with the beauty of turquoise. He’s been in the turquoise business for over 40 years and knows most people in the turquoise world. He told me how the Native American Indians believe that there’s a story in every stone. (I happen to be third generation Native American Indian so my ears perked up when he spoke of this.) When you look at the custom piece above and see the beauty in this stone you can see why there maybe a story in there.
Even the simplest stones are beautiful. These turquoise add a color to this sterling silver earring setting.
Small turquoise beads in earrings make me smile. See how different the color of these Kingman beads are opposed to the Royston turquoise pieces above. It’s amazing.
The beauty of turquoise….. somehow I feel it connects me to the earth in some way that no other stone does. I’m happy I can work with it often.

I love the new year. So many possibilities!! The holidays were awesome and I’m stoked to get back at it. Last month I purchased this labradorite stone. Yup….it’s huge. The only answer was a big pendant and you can see below what I made with it!!
The setting is all sterling silver and the sterling silver chain is 36″ long with an extra hoop so it can be adjusted.
I stamped *wherever I go I go with my heart* on the back. I also created two cutouts so you can see part of the stone.
Btw…you can find this piece in my shop.
This Peruvian opal is quite lovely. The shape and color are perfect.
I finished this dogtooth amethyst yesterday. It’s a large stone but I think it makes a beautiful ring.
Another Bisbee turquoise ring. 🙂
My three latest rings…..labradorite, Bisbee turquoise and dogtooth amethyst.
I’m looking forward to the year ahead. I’ve got new ideas and lots of pretty stones to work with. You can find my latest pieces at my etsy.

I’m having so much fun creating these pieces. It’s so important to find your passion and run with it even if it’s an hour a week. I do get those frustrating moments in my studio when everything goes wrong but then I’ll put on my running shoes and get outside for thirty minutes and when I come back my head is usually cleared up.
This is a pic of the bezel I made before I put in this beautiful labradorite stone.
SWOON….thankfully it’s not in my size or it would of stayed with me…lol.
Here’s a photo of both the labradorite and a new Bisbee turquoise ring. That ring has feathers stamped on it and says….feathers from angels…on the band.
Love, love this piece. It’s a unpolished Bisbee turquoise and it says…. soul of a warrior…on the back. It’s gone to a real warrior. So happy!!
I made it long and I think it was the right choice.
For years I’ve used Moo to do my business cards for my paintings. I just recently started using them for my jewelry. I think they turned out great!!

I’m officially obsessed with gemstones. Who knew????? I thought that shoes were my only problem but now I have to throw these stones in…lol. These are some of my new ones. Included in the photo are a labradorite, moonstone, African bloodstone, Peruvian opal…..swoon, swoon… candelaria and Nevada turquoise. So much fun!!!!!
I started with the Peruvian opal…omg!! It’s such a beautiful stone. Check out the next two pics. I cut a hole in the back so when the light shines through you can see how lovely it is. These photos don’t have it on a chain yet but I did that yesterday. You can check it out at my Etsy shop.
This piece was so much fun for me to make.
Ahhhhh…..the Kingman turquoise….. I just smile thinking of these amazing stones. I made this sterling silver ring in a size 7.5 so it wouldn’t be close to fitting me…lol. I’m so pleased at the way it looks. Btw…. I keep getting calls from my mom about my manicure or lack of. Really? I had to remind her that my hands are working in metals and files each day. A manicure isn’t going to fix what I have going on…lol.
Have a wonderful start of the weekend!! Thanks for stopping in!!
